"May the Peace and Blessings of Allah be Upon You"

Praise be to Allaah, we seek His help and His forgiveness. We seek refuge with Allaah from the evil of our own souls and from our bad deeds. Whomsoever Allaah guides will never be led astray, and whomsoever Allaah leaves astray, no one can guide. I bear witness that there is no god but Allaah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and Messenger.

Adhan - The Call For Prayers

Adhan is the first call to Prayer. The Azan is uttered in a loud, albeit sweet melodious, voice to announce to the faithful that it is time for the Obligatory Prayer and to invite them to offer the prayers. Those who perform Azan are known as Muezzin.

The honour of being the first Muezzin goes to Hazrat Bilal, a black slave who converted to Islam. He had a very sweet, resonant and musical voice. He was appointed as Muezzin by the Prophet of Islam. The appointment of a black slave as the first person to call Muslims for prayers, shows that in Islam all human beings are treated as equals. Rich or poor, black or white, short or tall - all are equal in the eyes of Allah. It is the piety of each individual that makes the difference.

Azan is recited in a loud voice by the Muezzin facing the direction of the Kaaba in the following words, which are said in the order mentioned:

"Allahu Akbar" - recited FOUR times.
Meaning, "Allah is Most Great."(four times)

"Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allah" - recited TWO times.
Meaning, "I bear witness that there is none worthy of being worshipped except Allah."(twice)

"Ash-hadu anna Muhammad-ar-Rasoolullah" - recited TWO times.
Meaning, "I bear witness that Muhammad is the Apostle of Allah."(recited twice)

"Hayya alas-Salah" - recited TWO times.
Meaning, "Come to prayer."(turning the face alone to the right and saying it twice)

"Hayya alal-falah" - recited TWO times.
Meaning, "Come to Success."(turning the face alone to the left and saying it twice)

"Allahu Akbar" - recited TWO times.
Meaning, "Allah is Most Great" (face back to front and saying it two times).

"La ilaha ill-Allah"
Meaning, "I bear witness that there is none worthy of being worshipped except Allah."(twice)

Morning (Fajr) Prayers
The following phrase is added after "Hayya alal-falah" in the Azan of the early morning prayers:

"As-salatu khairum minannaum" - recited Two times.
Meaning, "Prayer is better than sleep" (recited two times).

Iqamat
Iqamat is the second call to prayer and is uttered immediately before the beginning of the Obligatory Prayer (Fard). It is similar to Azan but with the addition of the following sentence after "Hayya 'alal-falah:"

"Qad qama-tis-Salah" - recited two times.
Meaning, "Prayer has indeed begun" (recited two times)

Repeating the words of the Adhan

You say      :    Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar.
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest.

After The Adhan

http://xeniagreekmuslimah.files.wordpress.com/2010/10/dua-after-the-adhan.jpg

24,25. Allaahumma Rabba haathihid-da watit-taammati wassalaatil-qaaimati, aati Muhammadanil-waseelata walfadheelata, wab ath-hu maqaamam-mahmoodanil-lathee waadtahu,
[innaka laa tukhliful-meeaad]
After replying to the call of Muaththin. you should recite in Arabic Allahs blessings on the Prophet.

O Allah , Lord of this perfect call and established prayer. Grant Muhammad the intercession and favor, and raise him to the honored station You have promised him, [verily You do not neglect promises].

Reference:
Al-Bukhari 1/152, and the addition between brackets is from Al-Bayhaqi 1/410 with a good (Hasan) chain of narration. See 'Abdul-Azlz bin Baz's Tuhfatul-Akhyar, pg. 38.
Between the call to prayer and the Iqamah, you should supplicate Allah for yourself. Invocation during this time is not rejected.

Adhan

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 582: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allahs Apostle said, "When the Adhan is pronounced Satan takes to his heels and passes wind with noise during his flight in order not to hear the Adhan. When the Adhan is completed he comes back and again takes to his heels when the Iqama is pronounced and after its completion he returns again till he whispers into the heart of the person (to divert his attention from his prayer) and makes him remember things which he does not recall to his mind before the prayer and that causes him to forget how much he has prayed."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 585: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri:
Allahs Apostle said, "Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Muadhdhin is saying.

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 589: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allahs Apostle said, "If the people knew the reward for pronouncing the Adhan and for standing in the first row (in congregational prayers) and found no other way to get that except by drawing lots they would draw lots, and if they knew the reward of the Zuhr prayer (in the early moments of its stated time) they would race for it (go early) and if they knew the reward of 'Isha' and Fajr (morning) prayers in congregation, they would come to offer them even if they had to crawl."

On a wet rainy , muddy day

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 605: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Nafi:
Once in a cold night, Ibn Umar pronounced the Adhan for the prayer at ,Dajnan (the name of a mountain) and then said, "Pray at your homes", and informed us that Allah's Apostle used to tell the Muadhdin to pronounce Adhan and say, "Pray at your homes" at the end of the Adhan on a rainy or a very cold night during the journey."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 635: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Nafi:
Once on a very cold and stormy night, Ibn Umar pronounced the Adhan for the prayer and then said, "Pray in your homes." He (Ibn Umar) added. "On very cold and rainy nights Allah's Apostle used to order the Mu'adhdhin to say, 'Pray in your homes.' "

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 637: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abdullah bin Al-Harith:
Ibn Abbas addressed us on a (rainy and) muddy day and when the Muadh-dhin said, "Come for the prayer" Ibn Abbas ordered him to say, "Pray in your homes." The people began to look at one another with surprise as if they did not like it. Ibn 'Abbas said, "It seems that you thought ill of it but no doubt it was done by one who was better than I (i.e. the Prophet). It (the prayer) is a strict order and I disliked to bring you out."
Ibn 'Abbas narrated the same as above but he said, "I did not like you to make you sinful (in refraining from coming to the mosque) and to come (to the mosque) covered with mud up to the knees."

Congregation & coming to mosque

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 620: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Huraira:
Allah's Apostle said, "The reward of the prayer offered by a person in congregation is twenty seven times greater than that of the prayer offered in ones house or in the market (alone). And this is because if he performs ablution and does it perfectly and then proceeds to the mosque with the sole intention of praying, then for every step he takes towards the mosque, he is upgraded one degree in reward and his one sin is taken off (crossed out) from his accounts (of deeds). When he offers his prayer, the angels keep on asking Allahs Blessings and Allahs forgiveness for him as long as he is (staying) at his Musalla. They say, O Allah! Bestow Your blessings upon him, be Merciful and kind to him. And one is regarded in prayer as long as one is waiting for the prayer."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 623: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Abu Musa:
The Prophet said, "The people who get tremendous reward for the prayer are those who are farthest away (from the mosque) and then those who are next farthest and so on. Similarly one who waits to pray with the Imam has greater reward than one who prays and goes to bed. "

Supper served

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 640: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Aisha:
The Prophet said, "If supper is served, and Iqama is pronounced one should start with the supper."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 641: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Anas bin Malik:
Allahs Apostle said, "If the supper is served start having it before praying the Maghrib prayer and do not be hasty in finishing it."

Volume 1, Book 11, Number 642: Sahih Bukhari
Narrated Nafi':
Ibn Umar said, "Allah's Apostle said, If the supper is served for anyone of you and the Iqama is pronounced, start with the supper and dont be in haste (and carry on eating) till you finish it." If food was served for Ibn Umar and Iqama was pronounced, he never came to the prayer till he finished it (i.e. food) in spite of the fact that he heard the recitation (of the Quran) by the Imam (in the prayer).

Narrated Ibn Umar: The Prophet said, "If anyone of you is having his meals, he should not hurry up till he is; satisfied even if the prayer has been started."

The Excellence of Adhan

1033. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "Were people to know the blessing of pronouncing Adhan and the standing in the first row, they would even draw lots to secure these privileges. And were they to realize the reward of performing Salat early, they would race for it; and were they to know the merits of Salat after nightfall (Isha) and the dawn (Fajr) Salat, they would come to them even if they had to crawl.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim]

.
Commentary: This expression to crawl is used to illustrate the high merit of praying Isha and Fajr in congregation in the mosque. This Hadith also urges to make best to occupy the first rows, as the `Angels of Mercy' pray for the Imam first, then for those who pray immediately behind him in the first row, then those behind them, and so on. The Hadith also points out the excellence of Adhan and the great reward of the person who pronounces it.

1034. Muawiyah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) saying: "The Muadhdhinun (callers to prayer) will have the longest necks on the Day of Resurrection.''
[Muslim].

Commentary:  This Hadith highlights the eminence of Mu'adhdhin and Adhan. Adhan means calling people to the worship of Allah. Muadhdhin (the caller) gets reward for the Salat of all those who hear his Adhan. The phrase "will have the longest necks'' has been given different interpretations. One of them is that they are those who long for the Mercy of Allah more than anyone else. Another interpretation is that their necks will grow longer on the Day of Requital and so sweat will not reach them, for every one will sweat on that day depending on his deeds: sweat will reach up to ones ankles or knees or waists. In the case of some people, sweat will reach up to their mouths. Another interpretation is that those who call Adhan will have an honourable and great status on the Day of Requital.

1035. Abdullah bin Abdur-Rahman reported: Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) said to me: "I see that you like living among your sheep in wilderness. So whenever you are with your sheep or in wilderness and you want to call Adhan, you should raise your voice because whoever hears the Adhan, whether a human or jinn or any other creature, will testify for you on the Day of Resurrection.'' Abu Said added: "I heard this from the Messenger of Allah (PBUH).''
[Al-Bukhari].

Commentary:  Shayun is used for everything, or every other thing, and covers animals, vegetables and inanimate matter. On the Day of Requital, Almighty Allah will grant the faculty of speech, and all these things will testify for the Mu'adhdhin, as would be done by mankind and jinn.

1036. Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When Adhan for Salat is pronounced, the devil takes to his heels and breaks wind with noise so as not to hear the call. When the Adhan is finished, he returns. When the Iqamah is announced, he turns his back, and after it is finished, he returns again to distract the attention of one and makes him remember things which he does not recall in his mind before the Salat, and says `Remember this, and this,' and thus causes one to forget how many Rak`at he performed.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary: The words signify that Satan runs with great speed and he breaks wind, or he intentionally does so. In any case, it shows that he has an aversion for Adhan. The second point that we learn from this Hadith  is that the concentration of mind is a must for Salat to defeat all attempts of Satan to disrupt it.

1038. Abu Said Al-Khudri (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, "When you hear the Muadhdhin (pronouncing the call to Salat), repeat after him what he says.''
[Al-Bukhari and Muslim].

Commentary:  This Hadith also tells us to repeat the words of Adhan when we hear it. But when he says "Hayya alas-Salah'' or "Hayya alal-Falah'' we must say "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah.''

1040. Sad bin Abu Waqqas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Prophet (PBUH) said, "He who says after the Adhan:
Ash-hadu an la ilaha illallah Wah-dahu la sharika Lahu;
wa ash-hadu anna Muhammadan abduhu wa Rasuluhu, radhitu Billahi Rabban,
wa bi Muhammadin Rasulan,
wa bil Islami Dinan

[I testify that there is no true god except Allah Alone; He has no partners and that Muhammad (PBUH) is His slave and Messenger; I am content with Allah as my Rubb, with Muhammad as my Messenger and with Islam as my Deen], his sins will be forgiven.''
[Muslim].

Commentary:  This Hadith mentions another prayer which should be recited beside the already mentioned Du`a-al-Wasilah.

1041. Anas (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: "The supplication made between the Adhan and the Iqamah is never rejected.''
[Abu Dawud and At-Tirmidhi].

Misleading Emails from Muslims regarding Adhan

Most Muslims have good intentions but lack the knowledge of the basics of the Islam when they forward email chains. While some of the emails can be classified as mistakes or stupidity, some are really dangerous.

One such email chain: Azan “Round The Clock”. This starts (in multi-colors) with
Please read complete so you know the facts of Azaan
A reminder! This is something we tend to ignore on a daily basis.

The Holy Prophet Mohammad (SalallaAllahu Alehi Wasallam) said, stop doing everything during the Azan even reading the Quran, (and repeat the Azaan with the Moazzin.) {My comment: There are authentic hadeeths like “Narrated Abu Said Al-Khudri: Allahs Apostle said, “Whenever you hear the Adhan, say what the Muadh-dhin is saying” Saheeh Bukhari 1.585}

FALSE HADITH

The person who talks during the Azaan will not be able to say the Kalma-e-shahadat on his/her death bed. {My question: Wait a minute, which Imaam has recorded this Hadeeth?} Plz try to pass this message to more muslims as u can afford.
And towards the end, it says

Allah said: “If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you.”
This is the dangerous area. There is no reference to where this is recorded. This statement is not in Quran. But, one brother found out that a similar statement attributed to Jesus.  A Christian email chain contains
Jesus said, “If you are ashamed of me, I will be ashamed of you before my Father” Not ashamed pass this

Another widely circulated email [This made my eyes wet (Must Read till end)] is also a copy from Christian email chain. The original Christian version starts with
Every Sunday afternoon, after the morning service at their church, the Pastor and his 11-year-old son would go out into their town and hand out Gospel tracts. This particular Sunday afternoon, as it came time for the Pastor and his son to go to the streets with their tracts, it was very cold outside as well as pouring down rain.
The Muslims converted that to
Every Friday afternoon, after the Jumma prayers, the  Imam and his eleven year old son would go out into their town and hand out “PATH TO PARADISE” and other  Islamic literature. This particular and fortunate Friday afternoon, as the time came for the Imam and his son to go to the streets with  their booklets, it was very cold outside, as well as pouring rain.

I am wondering why do the Muslims need to get stories and quotes from Christians. Arent Quran, Hadeeth and authentic biography of Companions and their students and Imams enough for us? or are they too tough or boring to read?

IMPORTANT NOTE:
I share with you some Islamic messages and I do not force any one to receive them.
