Muslims, Eids, and Having Fun.........

Image
There indeed is a lot of misunderstanding prevailing among Muslims, as well as non-Muslims, about the Islamic point of view of celebration. There are Muslims who imagine that any kind of celebration is out of place, since this world is ephemeral and is meant as a testing ground for humans. From their point of view, what matters is the Hereafter, and so anyon e who finds any occasion in this life as worthy of marking as joyful is terribly wrong. This view is the result of a gross misunderstanding about the life of this world as envisioned in Islam. Indeed, Allah Almighty has designed this world as a testing ground for all of us. And the test consists of the manner in which we use the blessings the Creator has bestowed upon us. Isn't it natural and necessary on our part to be thankful to the All-Merciful by being happy in receiving the blessings He has showered upon us? If so, isn't it expected of us to express that happiness in an ap- propriate fashion? By celebrating the g...

Hajj: A Holistic Homecoming for Humbled Muslims

Image
' Hajj: A Holistic Homecoming for Humbled Muslims:- The sacred journey of hajj is an extremely fulfilling one that imparts a pilgrim lifelong lessons and poignant memories, the effect of which stay in their lives long after the echo of “labaik allahumma labaik” has faded from their ears. Hajj: Economic Empowerment for Entrepreneurs:- Most of the millions of Muslims, who gather in the cities of Jeddah, Makkah and Madinah for the Hajj, comprise of the able-bodied and well-off among the global Ummah. This automatically offers tremendous opportunities for local business men and traders, who customarily witness an upsurge in their sales during hajj season. For this reason, Allah has allowed a pilgrim to continue doing trade or business during his or her hajj journey: (2:198) Since the advent of the Prophet, till a few decades before today, traveling to perform hajj and staying there was extremely difficult. The weather was extremely hot and and the Hajj left many pilgrims weak...

LOVE AND RESPECT IN ISLAM

Image
.......................... .Love and respect................... ..... Have we ever thought about the difference between love and respect? When we say we love someone, what does that mean? When we say we respect someone, how is different from loving that person? Think about it; when you love someone, you want to give them something that will make them happy. When you respect somebody, you are willing  to listen and take from what they say. For humans, it’s part of our nature that it’s easier for us to give advice than to take advice. It’s easier for us to reprimand someone than to get reprimanded ourselves. So using the same analogy, we can safely say that it’s easier to love someone than to show them respect. If we truly do respect someone, then that means that if they share their thoughts with us or gives us advice, we take the advice and try to act upon it instead of saying “It’s my way or the highway” or just listening with one ear and letting it come out of the other ea...

Definition of “Losers” and Non-acceptance of Deeds and Actions

Allah tells us in the Quran about people who will be the losers (with respect to their deeds) on the Day of Judgment. Here are the verses from Surah Kahf about those people. losers-kahf1 The Quran Tafsir by Mohsin Khan states that for the acceptance of the righteous deeds it is stipulated that the following two basic conditions must be fulfilled: The intentions while doing such deeds must be totally for Allâh’s sake only without any show-off or to gain praise or fame. Such a deed must be performed in accordance with the Sunnah of Allâh’s Messenger Muhammad bin ‘Abdullâh , the last of the Prophets and the Messengers. Narrated Aishah that Allâh’s Messenger said, “If somebody innovates something which is not present in our religion (of Islâmic Monotheism), then that thing will be rejected.” (Sahih Al-Bukhari, Vol.3, Hadith No.861). In another Hadith narrated Aishah: The Prophet said: “Whoever performs a (good) deed which we have not ordered (anyone) to do (or is not in accord with...

Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz) –Reflections from Surah Hadeed

This verse is about how all matters are already inscribed in Al-Lauh Al-Mahfuz (Book of Decrees) and the advice of the prophet how to get out of calamities and about the Book of Decrees. written-down-Allah “No calamity befalls on the earth or in yourselves but it is inscribed in the Book of Decrees (Al-Lauh Al-mahfuz) before We bring it into existence. Verily, that is easy for Allah.” (Quran, Surah Hadeed: 22) The prophet (S.A.W.S.) said: Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas, Once I was behind the Prophet and he said: "O boy, I will teach you a few words: Be loyal and obedient to Allâh [worship Him (Alone)], remember Him always, obey His Orders. He will save you from every evil and will take care of you in all the spheres of life. Be loyal and obedient to Allâh, you will find Him near (in front of you) i.e. He will respond to your requests. If you ask, ask Allâh. If you seek help, seek help from Allâh. Know that if all the people get together in order to benefit you with so...

Healing the Weak Imaan

Image
Thinking about and trying to understand meanings of the Glorious Quran, which Allah has sent down for His slaves to clarify all things and as a Light that He gives to whom He wills among His slaves. Indeed, the Quran contains tremendous medicine for all ills of the heart, as Allah said, what translated means, "And We sent down from the Quran that which is a healing and a mercy to those who believe (in Islamic Monotheism)." [17:82] ...The Quran contains Islamic Monotheism; Allah’s promises, warnings and Commandments; stores of previous nations; and codes of the best conduct and behavior. These various subjects in the Quran have different effects on the heart. Some Surahs (chapters) of the Quran are more frightening than others. The Messenger of Allah said, what translated means, "Hud (chapter 11) and its sisters (chapters 56, 77, 78 and 81) have brought me white hairs before their due time." [As-Silsilah As-Sahihah]. Hud and its sisters brought white hairs to...

Rewards, Benefits and Virtues of Quran and its Recitation

Image
Q uran is the book of guidance for a Muslim’s life. This article is a collection of Quranic verses, Ahadeeth (Prophet’s Saying) and sayings of the salaf (pious people that followed the prophet) on the majesty of Quran, the great virtues for reading and following it. 1. Quran on Quran To begin with, there are many verses in the Quran itself that underscore the majesty of Allah ’s verses and the Quran itself – Allah says (interpretation of the meaning): Say: ‘If the mankind and the jinn were together to produce the like of this Quran, they could not produce the like thereof, even if they helped one another’ ”[Quran Al-Israa’ 17:88] Had We sent down this Quran on a mountain, you would surely have seen it humbling itself and rending asunder by the fear of Allah. Such are the parables which We put forward to mankind that they may reflect. [Quran Al-Hashr 59:21] “This is the Book (the Quran), whereof there is no doubt, a guidance to those who are Al-Muttaqoon [the p...

What’s in the Quran?

Image
The message revealed in the Quran has been categorized by scholars in many ways. The following is one categorization by ibn Al-Qayyim - Information about Allâh , His Names, His Attributes, His Actions and His Sayings – which is Tawhîd al-Ma’rifah wal-Ithbât (the Tawhîd of knowledge and affirmation); or It is a call to worship Allâh alone without any partner, and a rejection of whatever is worshipped besides Him – and this is Tawhîd al-Irâdî at-Talabî (the Tawhîd of actions and intentions); or It is a command to obey Him and to comply with His orders and prohibitions – so this is from the rights of Tawhîd and is a completion of it; or It gives information about the people of Tawhîd and how they were treated in this world and how they will be honoured in the Hereafter – and this is the reward for Tawhîd ; or It gives information about the people of Shirk (associating partners along with Allâh) and the punishment they receive in this world and the torment they shal...

Quranic Reflections – The Omniscience of Allah

Image
“Have you not seen that Allah knows whatsoever is in the heavens and whatsoever is on the earth? There is no Najwa (secret counsel) of three, but He is their fourth (with His Knowledge, while He Himself is over the Throne, over the seventh heaven), nor of five but He is their sixth (with His Knowledge), not of less than that or more, but He is with them (with His Knowledge) wherever they may be; and afterwards on the Day of Resurrection, He will inform them of what they did. Verily, Allah is the All-Knower of everything.” [ Surah Mujadila (58: 7)] Reflections from this verse – In this verse Allah the Exalted informs us of His knowledge encompassing all creation, observing it, hearing and seeing every thing and every one, wherever they may be and in whatever condition they may be. This verse while calling our attention to Allah’s Omniscience also helps us form the correct perspective about His (SWT)’s Omnipresence. As Allah’s vision grasps everything, we feel ...
