1. Masjid al-Haram, Mecca, Saudi Arabia Masjid al-Haram is the largest mosque in the world. Located in the city of Mecca, it surrounds the Kaaba, the place which Muslims worldwide turn towards while offering daily prayers and is Islam’s holiest place. The mosque is also known as the Grand Mosque. The current structure covers an area of 4,008,020 square metres (990.40 acres) including the outdoor and indoor praying spaces and can accommodate up to four million Muslim worshippers during the Hajj period, one of the largest annual gatherings of people in the world. 2. Al-Omari Mosque

Lebanon A very famous in itself, Al-Omari Mosque encloses Sahet an- Nejmeh at the mid of Beirut. It is very old in comparison to Hariri Mosque that is placed south-east of the square. While looking at it more closely, you will notice that it is less assuming, has darker interiors, lower ceilings that make it look like much more quintessential of Ottoman mosques. The men’s section of the mosque is relatively very small, but also has a small number of imposing chandeliers and calligraphy paintings on the top. But, women’s section, being smaller in size to that of men’s, but is still admirably adorned. Further, you may find similarity in its structural designing to that of Ottoman structures...

Sultan Ahmed or Blue Mosque:

Blue Mosque in Sea Green This is probably the most famous mosque (after Ka’aba, Masjid Nabvi & Bait Al Muqadas), especially among non-Muslims. Built in 1650s, it is huge in size. Its design is typical of Ottamani architecture.This mosque was built around 1616, its inner walls have blue tiles hence it became famous as Blue Mosque. It’s center dome is 43 meters high, more than half of a hockey ground. Blue Mosque is surrounded by Basphorous on one side and a park on the other. Topkapi palace is nearby and so is similar looking but much older Hagia Sofia church.

Turkey's First Mosque Designed by a Woman

Zeynep Fadillioglu has quietly pulled off a coup: She's the first woman in Turkey to design a mosque. An interior designer known for jet setting ways, she nonetheless won a commission to redesign the religious structure in Istanbul. She even recruited women to help in the construction. Begun last year, the project was just recently completed. It's a fairly impressive building, subtly blending modern technique < The view from the balcony. Women and men are separated in mosques; men worship on the main floor.
